Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Unpublished article

  • Word or rtf format

  • Text written in Spanish or English

  • Minimum length of 7,000 words and maximum of 10,000 words. Arial 12-point font, 1.5 spaced, US letter sized paper.

  • Complete information: title of the work (in Spanish and English), an abstract of its content of 80 to 150 words (in Spanish and English, the same content), 5 to 7 keywords (in Spanish and English, the same number of words and same sense).

    Keywords must be selected according to the following indexes: PAIS International Broad Topics Classification System; OECD Macrothesaurus; UNBIS United Nations Bibliographic Information.

  • Name and nationality of each author, indicating the activity being carried out at the time of submission, institutional affiliation, full address, telephone, fax and email (in Spanish and English).

  • A brief biography of each author in Spanish and English (between 100 and 150 words).

  • Bibliographic references in brackets in the text as follows: (author, year, page).

  • Full bibliography presented at the end of the work, in alphabetical order and conforming to the following scheme:

    a) For books: last names, name, year (in brackets), title (in italics), city, publisher;

    b) For an article compiled in a book: last names, name, year (in brackets), title (in quotation marks), the word "in", name of the coordinator, title of the book (in italics), city, publisher;

    c) For journals and newspapers: last names, name, year (in brackets), title (in quotation marks), the word "in", name of the publication, volume, issue, pages.

    It is essential for each work included in the bibliography to have been cited in the article. Otherwise, it should not be considered a source consulted by the authors.

  • Every image, map, chart, graph or figure must be accompanied by its title and source, or, where appropriate, the legend "Own elaboration."

  • Send the diagrams, figures, and graphs in the package that were created (Word, Excel, Stata, etc.). If they were made in Stata, they must be accompanied by a pdf generated directly from Stata. If a different application was used, please note it when submitting the article.

  • Suggest three to five academic experts on the subject, with their complete data: name, affiliation, specialty area and link to their personal page.

Author Guidelines

1. In Gestión y Política Pública, only unpublished articles that have not been submitted simultaneously for publication anywhere else will be reviewed. In this regard, authors should consider that the journal will use anti-plagiarism software.

• Contributions must be sent through the Open Journal Systems (OJS). The text will be sent in Word or rtf format, and graphics and figures in the package they were created in (Excel, Word, Stata, etc.).

2. The contribution must conform to the following guidelines. Important: only the articles that comply with all the points detailed in this section will be considered for review.

• Only texts written in Spanish or English will be accepted. Articles must have a minimum length of 7,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words. They should be submitted in Arial 12-point font, 1.5 spaced, and on US letter sized paper.

• Along with the submission of the paper, authors must include the following information: title (in Spanish and English), an abstract of the article's content of no less than 80 and no more than 150 words (in Spanish and English; reflecting the same content), 5-7 keywords (in Spanish and English; same number of words with the same meanings), author's name and nationality, the activity being carried out at the time of submission, affiliation institution, as well as full address, telephone number, fax and email (in Spanish and English). Authors are requested to take care of the correct writing of the abstracts and of the quality of their translation into English or Spanish. Additionally, it is requested that the objectives of the research and the methodological design used are specified in the abstract; likewise, results obtained, investigation limitations, originality and conclusions must be mentioned. Keywords must be selected according to the following indexes: PAIS International Broad Topics Classification System; OECD Macrothesaurus; UNBIS United Nations Bibliographic Information.

• A brief biography of each author in Spanish and English should be included (between 100 and 150 words).

• Bibliographic references within the text must be in brackets as follows: (author, year, page).

• The full bibliography should be included at the end, in alphabetical order and conform to the following scheme: a) For books: last name, name, year (in brackets), title (in italics), city, publisher; b) For articles compiled in a book volume: last name, name, year (in brackets), title (in quotation marks), the word "in", the coordinator's name, book title (in italics), city, publisher; c) For journals and newspapers: last name, name, year (in brackets), title (in quotation marks), the word "in", name of publication, volume, issue, pages.

It is essential for each work included in the bibliography to have been cited in the article. Otherwise, it should not be considered a source consulted by the authors.

3. Reviewing of the manuscript is anonymous and will be carried out by at least two specialized members of the portfolio in the subject. Manuscripts will begin the peer-reviewing process once it has been verified their compliance with the formal requirements and in the order in which they were received by the editor. A formal acknowledgment of receipt will be sent to the authors. Before being sent for review, manuscripts are evaluated by one of the editors to assess their relevance to the journal and decide whether a particular manuscript should be submitted for review or not. According to the experts' evaluation, the article submitted for opinion may be: a) widely recommended for publication; b) recommended for publication only if its quality is improved in the terms indicated; c) recommended for publication but in a journal other than GYPP, or d) not recommended for publication (see: www.gestionypoliticapublica.cide.edu). The commitment of Gestión y Política Pública is to complete the process as soon as possible; however, the reviewing time will be subject to the workload of the specialists to whom the article has been assigned and to the sending of the corresponding review. In recent times, this process has varied from approximately 6 months to over a year.

4. If the article is accepted, the authors must sign a transfer of rights contract. Formal acceptance and subsequent designation of the issue in which an article will be published are subject to the sending of the rights assignment contract by the author(s), as well as compliance with any other legal, administrative or other requirement.

5. Before submitting their articles, authors are encouraged to consider the sections that make up the journal:

Gestión y Política Pública (Management and Public Policy). Comprised by articles focused on theoretical approaches of design problems and policy implementation or evaluation, as well as closely connected with state reform processes.

Gestión y Organización (Management and Organization). Oriented to establish systematic approaches to organization theory, a discipline that constitutes a fundamental theoretical axis to understand the change processes, the structure, the decision dynamics, the behavior and the culture of public organizations characterized by their high complexity.

Gestión Regional y Local (Regional and Local Management). Its subjects are government structures and state-society relations, in particular the recent decentralization processes carried out at a municipal level.

Experiencias Relevantes (Relevant Experiences). A space for the reviewing and studying of specific cases that yield concrete success or failure lessons in the practice of managing public policies and organizations.

Posiciones e Ideas (Positions and Ideas). A space for texts that focus on current issues regarding the public administration perspectives.

Estudios de Caso para la Docencia (Case Studies for Teaching). Works that deal with issues of public policy, government and public management, with the specific structural and narrative purpose of being used by professors as a teaching strategy and theoretical-practical tool in class. By means of their discussion in the classroom, the professors at undergraduate or graduate level should lead an exchange of ideas with their students, developing their analytical skills and critical thinking. Thus, the texts published in this section maintain a clear pedagogical value and are a tool to encourage active rather than passive learning

6. Authors are invited to send proposals for our book reviews section to be considered by the editor of Gestión y Política Pública. We suggest that authors take into consideration criteria such as the contemporary relevance of the reviewed book, the author's influence within the Administration and Public Policies field, as well as the importance of dissemination and knowledge of the book among Latin American readers.

7. The Gestión y Política Pública journal appears in the following national and international indexes and abstracts: Índice de Revistas Mexicanas de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (Index of Mexican Journals of Scientific and Technological Research) (Conacyt); Citas Latinoamericanas en Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades (Latin American Citations in Social Sciences and Humanities) (clase); Red de Revistas Científicas de América Latina y el Caribe, España y Portugal (Network of Scientific Journals from Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal) (Redalyc); Thomson ISI (Social Sciences Citation Index); International Development Abstracts; csa Cambridge Scientific Abstracts; International Political Science Abstracts; Public Affairs Information Service (pais); Manager Elsevier Geo Abstracts; Hispanic American Periodicals Index (hapi).
