Los impactos de las presiones institucionales sobre el desempeño ambiental: El papel mediador de la regulación ambiental voluntaria en México.

Esta investigación analiza el papel mediador de la regulación ambiental voluntaria en la relación entre las presiones miméticas, normativas y coercitivas y el desempeño ambiental de empresas certificadas en un país emergente. Utilizando modelos de ecuaciones estructurales y variables instrumentales con datos de encuestas de 225 empresas certificadas, se encontró que la regulación ambiental voluntaria aumenta la validez predictiva de las presiones miméticas y normativas sobre el desempeño ambiental. Además, la regulación ambiental voluntaria media completamente la relación entre la presión por el cumplimiento de la regulación y el desempeño ambiental. Este estudio contribuye a la literatura sobre política y gestión ambiental en dos formas: 1) demuestra la utilidad de la teoría institucional para explicar la adopción de la regulación ambiental voluntaria; 2) ofrece evidencia empírica de los beneficios y límites de la regulación ambiental voluntaria en un contexto caracterizado por vacíos institucionales.
